The Parnasala Temple, located near Bhadrachalam in Telangana, is an important pilgrimage site associated with the legendary Ramayana. It is believed to be where Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana spent part of their 14-year exile in the forests. The temple is situated amidst the serene and picturesque landscapes of the Kondaranya forests, which adds to its spiritual and natural charm. Parnasala Temple timings are from 06.00 AM – 06.00 PM.
The Parnasala Temple is believed to mark the exact spot where Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshmana lived during their exile. According to the Ramayana, they built a simple hut made of leaves (known as “Parnas”) in this forest, which is why the place is called Parnashala. The temple honors this period of their life when they embraced simplicity, asceticism, and the pursuit of righteousness (dharma) while living in the wilderness.
The site is also significant because it is where the demon king Ravana is said to have kidnapped Sita, setting off the chain of events that led to the epic battle between Lord Rama and Ravana. The abduction of Sita is a pivotal moment in the Ramayana, and Parnashala is seen as a key location in this legendary tale.
While the Parnasala Temple is modest in its structure, it holds deep spiritual significance for pilgrims. Peaceful, untouched forests surround the temple complex, adding to its divine aura. The site’s simplicity reflects the values of humility and devotion exemplified by Lord Rama during his exile.
Today, the temple remains a major pilgrimage site for devotees, who visit to pay homage to Lord Rama and seek spiritual solace in the same forest where the events of the Ramayana unfolded.
Parnasala Temple timings are from 06.00 AM – 06.00 PM.

During his exile, Lord Rama stayed near the Parnasala with Sita and Lakshmana and visited Shabari near Bhadrachalam.
The hermitage was named Parnasala because trees surrounded it (Parna means leaves, and Sala means house). It is said that Lord Rama used to offer prayers to Lord Shiva at a nearby cave temple called Shivacave. The history of Parnasala can be traced back to the Vedic period.
Parnasala, which became a much-visited picnic spot in Bhadrachalam, is said to be the place where the evil-minded king Ravan kidnaped Goddess Sita. This place develops this part of the epic Ramayana by showing the primary events with beautifully canvassed Shri Ram, Sita, Laxman, and Ravan sculptures.
While in exile, the trio enters the Dandaka Forest, where Ravana, the Rakshasa king of Lanka, abducts her. She is imprisoned in the playground of Ashoka Vatika in Lanka until she is saved by Rama, who slays her captor.
